Famous Brothers and Sisters from Hollywood


No doubt, the relation between a brother and sister is no where so venerated as in India. However, that’s not to say the westerners don’t respect family values. Here we turn our spotlight on some hot Hollywood celebrity brother-sister duos, which the world is literally hooked to, who’ve stood by each other their in thick and thin. In most cases one among the siblings has already tasted fame and success, while the other is till nursing dreams to make it big, courtesy their Superior Genes or Sibling Rivalry, whichever way you sum it up.

Some of the stories are pretty revealing, some deeply endearing, some unforgettable, some do touch the soul as well.

1.

Julia & Eric Roberts
 

Julia has been around for almost two decades now. Her first claim to fame was her role in Pretty Woman in the early 1990’s that managed to capture every Americans heart. Since then she has been named as one of People magazine’s “50 Most Beautiful People in the world” and that too not just once but 11 times in a row. Over the years she went to prove her mettle and became one of the highest-paid actresses in the world.

Her old brother, Eric Roberts, on the other hand, is not as popular as his sister, however, was nominated for the Academy Award and golden globe award for the Best Supporting Actor in Runaway Train in 1985. He then went on to do some fine roles in a slew of films.

The siblings however parted ways in 1993 over her brother’s child custody issue given that Julia supported Eric’s ex-girlfriend. In 2004 they reconciled when Eric visited the new mom Julia who reportedly gave birth to twins Phinnaeus and Hazel.

Our eyes whelmed with tears, all that matters now is the children, Eric was heard saying.

 Angelina Jolie and James Haven
 

For James the world doesn’t matter anymore, only sister Jolie matters. Hailing from a broken family, the brother-sister duo share a warm, intimate bond that words simply can’t define.

The full-lipped, wide-eyed, tattooed Jolie once showed up at the Oscars with her own brother that set the tongues-wagging. Angelina Jolie later explained in the interviews that after their parents' divorce both the brother and sister have been holding on to each other as a means of emotional support.

Brother James Haven in fact openly admits that he is totally under his sisters’ influence. At the same time, Jolie has being very protective about her brother’s love life so much so that James always counts on Jolie’s approval prior to starting off a relationship with any girl. According to James, he has already got a perfect woman in life and it’s hard for anyone to live up to that.

James, who got the same impressive looks as his sister, but failed to make it big in the Hollywood, travels with Brad and Angelina, and spends many a countless hours in the company of her six children.

 Kate Hudson and Oliver Hudson
 

Kate Hudson is an American film actress who caught the nations imagination with her role in Oscar-nominated drama ‘Almost famous’. Since then she has got numerous hit films in her repertoire. Oliver Hudson, on the other hand is known for his role as Adam Rhodes in the TV series Rules of Engagement.

Kate Hudson was drawn to acting during her early stages in life, thanks to the family’s deep ties to the industry, and in fact she liked staging childhood plays with older brother Oliver. She would tell her brother, to kill her in the play.

Interestingly, Oliver Hudson loves to call his sister "Dumbo" and "Hammerhead Shark." When Playboy inquired from him which nickname suits his sister better, Oliver said, obviously the man-eating shark.

Kate and Oliver Hudson were born to Academy Award-winning actress Goldie Hawn and Bill Hudson, an actor, comedian, and musician.

 Jake Gyllenhaal and Maggie Gyllenhaal
 

Remember Sam Hall from the 2004 blockbuster movie ‘The Day After Tomorrow’. Yes, it was Jake Gyllenhaal who played the character role of Sam Hall, a student caught in the catastrophic global cooling event. Born to director Stephen Gyllenhaal and screenwriter Naomi Foner, Gyllenhaal Jake began acting at age ten and since then has gone to play diverse roles, many of which have won critical acclaim for him.

Interestingly, both the brother-sister duo got an opportunity to come together onscreen in the indie cult hit Donnie Dark where. Jake plays a psychologically distressed onscreen brother to his real-life sister, actress Maggie Gyllenhaal.

Elder sister Maggie is also an American stage and screen actress and has an eclectic range of films in her kitty. In fact she received critical acclaim and a Golden Globe nomination for a sadomasochistic comedy ‘Secretary’.

Both brother and sister are actively involved in civil liberty, human rights, and anti- poverty campaigns

 

5.  Warren Beatty and Shirley MacLaine
 

These brother and sister duo are far beyond stars, and are almost legends. While most brother and sister celebrities usually have one who is more successful than the other, this pair is different. Each is an established star in their own right, and has several accolades and awards to their credit. With a successful career in film that each enjoys, they have little need to feed off the fame of the other. With a brilliant background and years of being in the business of theatre and film, they are Hollywood icons as far as star siblings are concerned. Beatty is a successful actor, producer and director having won Academy and Golden Globe awards.
