Famous Brothers and Sisters from Politics

Rakhi Gifts

With rakshabandhan round the corner, here we highlight a handful of politicians, both old and new, those which are household names in the Indian homes. Gujaratgifts.com on this auspicious occasion of Rakhi explores the unknown connect between these famous brother-sister duos from Indian Politics.

1.

Jawaharlal Nehru and Vijaya Laksmi Nehru Pandit

They belong to the first family of Indian politics – the powerful Nehru-Gandhi family. Even their father Motilal Nehru Motilal Nehru twice served as President of the Congress Party. Jawaharlal Nehru and Vijay Lakshmi Pandit no doubt were born with a proverbial silver spoon in their mouths; nonetheless, the siblings got their acts together and went on to live up to their family’s reputation (father Motilal Nehru was a renowned lawyer) by occupying prominent positions of power in the Indian Political realm.

Just for records: Jawaharlal Nehru was the first Prime- Minister of India. Sister Vijaya Lakshmi Pandit was an Indian diplomat and politician and was the first woman President of the United Nations General Assembly. Vijaya Lakshmi Pandit in one of her lectures had reminisced about the childhood days spent in the company of her brother Jawarharlal Nehru. She also spoke of the influence Nehru had on her political career and her personal life.

2.

MadhavRao Scindia and Vasundhara Raje Scindia

Born into the prominent Scindia ex-royal family household, MadhavRao Scindia and Vasundhara Raje Scindia were known to follow different political ideologies. Late MadhavRao Scindia was a minister in the Congress Party, while sister Vasundhara followed her mother, late Rajmata Vijaya Raje Scindia footsteps, and held different posts in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). She was finally elected as the first woman Chief Minister of Rajasthan in 2003.

The daughter-in-law of the Dholpur royals Vasundhara is said to have learnt the political nitty-gritty’s from her elder brother, late Madhavrao Scindia as well as her mother.

3.

 Omar Abdullah and Sara Abdullah

The stunning Sara Abdullah always lived in her father’s and brother’s shadow, till she married Sachin Pilot, currently the Minister of State in the Ministry of Communications and Technology. Though Omar, the youngest CM of Jammu and Kashmir, chose to stay away from his sister’s marriage then, seems to have reconciled to the situation now, and was last seen campaigning for his brother-in-law in the Dausa constituency. Did someone say ‘blood is thicker than water’?

4.

Rahul Mahajan and Poonam Mahajan Rao

Rahul Mahajan has been recently hogging the limelight for all wrong reasons. Marriage, divorce, drugs, reality shows etc, while sister Poonam Mahajan Rao has so far managed to conjure up a clean image and has in fact joined BJP as a normal party member.

Both Rahul and Poonam-sister are trained pilots. Brother dear showcased his love for sister when he undertook a padyatra while campaigning for his sister for the assembly elections. When asked how will cope his shooting schedule alongside electioneering, Rahul is said to have told, I have a duty towards my sister and I will be glad to carry out these duties. I will embark on a padyatra and meet people in the constituency. Hope, people try and figure out who the real Rahul Mahajan is.

5.  Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Vadera

You cannot talk about politics and siblings without making a mention of them. Among the most high profile for the family that they belong to, and also in the eye of the public as youth icons, they are certainly ready to take country on head long. While Priyanka is still somewhat shying from the active political front, she does her bit when she has to, making a stray appearance when least expected. Rahul, on the other hand, touted as the leader of the future, is right where he needs to be, in the thick of things.

GujaratGifts. com has several perfect ways to make your love for your sibling just right. With the perfect expressions of love that take forms in various ways like rakhi gifts to India, online rakhi in India, and an online rakhi shop, there is nothing that can stop Rakhi in India from being the most loved festival.
